
DeWitt started performing on stage at 13 years old. She graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree at Ball State University. In the following year, as she was acting in summer shows she was convinced by the director to enroll in UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA, she worked as a secretary, completing her television debut on the show's episode Baretta.Contrary to the rumor that she was guided by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has stated that they never did meet. DeWitt's character as Janet Wood in Three's Company's 1977-1984 period is among her most well-known. She was chosen to play Janet in the pilot for the show and recruited. Janet was also in an episode of The Ropers that she appeared in from 1979. DeWitt was the final actor to appear in the finale of Three's Company's 1984 season. Then, she appeared in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Following that she stopped acting for a long time. Her acting resume included the role in the stage production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. [1] Later she appeared on the TV comedy Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured characters inspired by her voice, which was performed by another actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and made a brief appearance on Living Single's final episode. [6] Some of her TV shows of the 2000s included Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as along with Call of the Wild.
