Lynley was the daughter of an Irish father and an Irish father and a New England mother. Before becoming an actress, she began her modeling career as a child model. Her nomination for the Theatre World Award for "one of the most promising actors 1956-2005" for her role in The Potting Shed. Lynley's film career started in the year 1958, with the Disney film The Light in the Forest. Holiday for Lovers (1959), Blue Denim (1959) followed. In 1959 she was nominated by the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female for the movie The Light in the Forest. In the following year she was again nominated for the Golden Globe Award as Most Promising Female Newcomer - Female.
